Winter Clay, RN, Apprentice Midwife
I started my journey into the birth space studying nursing. I became a registered nurse in 2015. I worked on both high risk obstetric and postpartum hospital units. I was an RN at the free standing birth center, The Midwife Center, for 2 years. In 2019, I became doula and transitioned out nursing in order to advocate for families' rights and emotional needs during birth. Born from that, I was moved to create access to the care that families needed and deserved. I cofounded PA's online Maternity directory, Masters of Maternity. I am now training as an apprentice midwife with Chana Luba Ertel and I am so thankful that she has taken me under her wing to pour decades of wisdom into me.
I am completely in love with the intimacy and peace home birth has to offer families
I have realized that mothers who desired to birth at home have limited options especially as it relates to people of color. It is extremely hard for women to find midwives that look like them and that meet their comfortable level. I desire to help fill in that gap. Midwives of color are a valuable option for families who desire home-birth in my community.
I am eager to serve families of all backgrounds in my community who desire to be empowered to birth their little ones in the comfort of their home.
I am a wife, mom, Christ follower, maternal advocate, and lover of all things birth! I've always had a desire to serve women in the birth space. As a teen mom I had my own personal experience of the transformation that happens inside of a woman when she gives birth to new life.
