Professional Midwifery Model of Care

  • Maternal Wisdom Midwifery is committed to assisting women and their families to achieve the birth they desire through natural and holistic means.
  • The care I provide is both highly skilled and individualized to meet each birthing family's specific needs.
  • As a home birth midwife, I am respectful of the physiological, emotional, spiritual, and cultural aspects of the birthing process.
  • My role as your midwife can take many forms. I nurture, listen, advise, inform, guide, observe, and I reassure; and while I am trained to rescue, very rarely do I need to.
  • Maternal Wisdom Midwifery strives to truly be "with women" which is the very essence of midwifery care.  I believe that women and their families deserve the benefit of both skilled midwifery care and sensitivity to all the aspects of welcoming a new child.

Complementary   .   Comprehensive   .   Holistic

  • As an independent practitioner, I work in collaboration with a Hospital based Practitioner .  This complementary system allows for positive,  holistic  and safe  care for out of hospital birth.
  • Clients are encouraged to visit the complementary care provider once per trimester in order to develop a relationship the provider.  Should an occasion arise wherein my client would need care outside of my scope of practice, this relationship would afford seamless continuity of care.
  • Prenatal appointments in the Midwifery Model of care are a time to build personal, warm, and trusting relationships, to empower women about their changing bodies, and to encourage health and creative participation.
  • Holistic care is important in order to provide optimal midwifery care.
  • Pregnancy and  childbirth are not isolated experiences but rather pivotal and powerful transitions in a woman’s life.   Acknowledging this, care during this time must be all encompassing, addressing multiple aspects of health and preparation.
