Professional labor support is a new addition to our maternity care system; but woman-to-woman labor support is not new to the ancient act of giving birth. Doulas are return to the traditional ways of "mothering the mother." Nurturing and caring for a woman's needs is essential during this intense life changing experience of labor and birth.
A professional labor support woman nurtures women and their partners through the emotional and physical aspects of childbearing. Labor support is a non-medical service.
