I decided that Midwifery was my calling at age 18 after reading the well known book Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin. I was inspired but felt I was too young and inexperienced to help women bring babies to the world. Therefore I decided to study herbalisim as a way to become the midwife and healer I hoped to be. I enrolled in The Northeast School of Botanical Medicine with herbalist 7 Song in Ithaca NY. During this time of my life I lived very close to the earth, gathered and made a lot of medicine and really got to "know" the plants. My studies during that time of my life proved to be a great foundation for my herbal knowledge. As my life journey took me to study Mystical Judaism in Israel I continued to learn about the plants around me. While I was not absorbed in herbalisim during that time I still identified and harvested medicals plants. As the mother of five I have felt thankful that i have been able to experiment and use herbal medicine as I raised my children. As a Midwife and Doula I have gained a lot of experience using herbal and alternative remedies with the many women I have worked with. I feel that to be a good herbalist one must really use and practice what they know. I have experience a ebb and flow with regards to how present i am with my herbal skills. I am thankful that in recent years with the inspiration of my eldest daughter, gathering plants and making medicine has once again become an active part of our lives.
I like to think of myself as the local herbalist. Perhaps reminiscent of an grandmother from centuries ago. I am not a clinical herbalist and do not specialize in major health issue. My area of knowledge is:
General health & wellness
acute problems such as colds, virus, infections of any type
All pregnancy related issues
Newborn concerns
Childrens health
Sleep and nervous system unrest
I like to encourage people, especially mothers to learn how to care for themselves and use the wonderful medicine abundant on G-d's earth. I do:
