  • assisting in prolonged and/or complicated labor
  • birth art, "coaching", visualization, birth hypnosis
  • insights into the history of birth in America
  • physiology and anatomy of labor and birth
  • natural remedies and "tricks of the trade"
  • comfort and support measures for labor
  • breastfeeding and initial postpartum
  • prenatal meetings and relationships
  • common obstetrical practices

In the words of women...

I truly feel like a "lucky doula" to have learned from Chana Luba. She brings a contagious energy, humor and enthusiasm to the training. I am really looking forward to beginning this path and I am so thankful that I now have the tools and confidence I need to start out." ~K.M. 2006

"This training was full of well presented information that was mentally and emotionally stimulating. I learned so much that I realized how much more I have to learn! Chana Luba Ertel is a clear, powerful teacher with a wealth of information and the ability to share with others in a way different people can understand.” ~ Caitlin Bernard, Shutesbury MA

Learning tools...

A good book for doulas starting out is, The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin. This book has wonderful information on all aspects of doula work. Clear chapters outline tools for labor, medical information, positions and much more. There are clear drawings and lists which make it a book that can be easily picked up here and there in order to learn something useful fast. Penny Simkin is a well known author and labor assistant who has written from experience and knowledge. I think it is great book to have on the shelf!

You can by this book and other books at the BirthRite Store. All profits made through BirthRite's affliate store will be made into contributions to local charties.

While enjoying the beauties of spring remember, just as we trust the flowers to open and bloom, so to must we trust women to open and give birth.

In peace,

Chana Luba Ertel, CD (DONA), CLD, CCCE, CAPPA Labor Doula Trainer of MA
