Doula Support does not just focus on labor support, rather a doula becomes a facilitator that fosters a families life changes experience of bringing a new life into the world. It is for that reason that I have seen the great benifit to prenatal relationships. I look forward to sharing my experience with those attending my training as well as the larger doula community. A vital component to good labor support is developing a connection and a friendship prenatally. Learning about the fears, concerns, attitudes, beliefs, lifestyles, and relationship of a couple is so beneficial to provided quality support during the life changing experience of childbirth.

Many tools and exercises can be used to foster this dialogue and relationships. Writing exercises, and Birth Art are just a couple that I use with my clients

I offer my clients a litter 3 ring binder that has handouts, writing exersices, and blank pages for notes, questions and art. This is a great way for couples to keep their materials organized and creates a prenatal birth journal in the end

To learn more about Birth Art and how this engaging and introspective activity can help pregnant women I highly recommend the great book Birthing From Within by Pam England. It is full of hands on assignments, testimonials, examples and an interesting and fresh approach to childbirth preparation.
