In-Depth Bio
I
have been a birth doula since 1998. I was first intrigued about birth
as a traveling teenager. While reading Spiritual Midwifery by Ina
May Gaskin one hot summer in my tent in Maine, I was amazed at the
miracle of birth and the beauty that women possess when surrendering
to the power of birth.
Feeling that I was too young and inexperienced to take on the holy responsibility of helping to bring babies into the world, I began to study herbalism as a way to begin to work with women and their bodies. I completed an intensive course of study at the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine in Ithaca, NY. I continued to work with and study medicinal plants until my life path brought me to Israel to study Jewish Mysticism.
I began my original intention of being involved with birthing women through the Birth Education Program at the Misgav Ladach Birthing Hospital in Jerusalem. I attended a comprehensive doula-training program and worked on the labor and delivery floor assisting at many births.
Upon returning to the states, I became a DONA- and CAPPA-certified labor doula and began my professional practice in the New York area.
I now live in Amherst, MA, where I am a CAPPA-certified labor doula trainer and CAPPA-certified Childbirth Educator.
I am an active member in my local doula network, the Green River Doula Network. My published writings can be found on birth and Jewish web sites as well as in doula publications. I am also the mother of three wonderful children whom were all born with love and empowerment!
